Hey there Reader, I'm helping a therapist launch his first book next month. He's starting from absolute zero - no email list, no social media following, just 58 friends and family. This week, we recruited his ARC team (Advanced Reader Copy team - people who read the book early and leave reviews on launch day). Here's what happened: Geoff emailed 58 friends and family members this past Thursday. (He didn't email past clients to avoid any potential HIPAA violation). So far, 14 people have said yes to reading an advance copy. I also tested offering the book to my list of dietitians (including you). Result: Good open rates, but very few people wanted to read a toddler parenting book. And that makes sense — wrong audience. So, lesson learned there. Your ARC team doesn't need to be big. It needs to be filled with the RIGHT people: people who want to see you succeed, are interested in the topic you write about, and are ready and willing to leave you a positive review. If you're worried you can't launch a book (or a business) without a huge audience, stay tuned. I'll keep documenting what actually works (and what doesn't) as we go. Next week: I'll share how many advance readers we end up with and what we do next. All my best, Julie P.S. Hey there Reader, Geoff Brookshire's Toddler Parenting book launches in 5 days. Here's a run-down of the things we're doing in the final week before launch: 1. Finalizing his list-building hook The last page of Geoff's book invites readers to join his email list by visiting a specific URL. This turns book buyers into email subscribers who may purchase future books or courses. 2. Setting up his email sequence The moment someone joins his list, they enter an email sequence. These emails:...
Hey there Reader, I'm officially another year older today, and I have a birthday gift for you. I'm working with Geoff Brookshire, an LCSW whose upcoming book is titled Toddler Parenting. It's about working with a toddler's developmental stage instead of against it, and about handling toddler tantrums and behavior with more peace. No time-outs, no counting to three, no harsh punishment. No anxiety-inducing strategies to "win" — for parent or child. Geoff has more than 25 years of experience as...
Hey there Reader, 30 Days to Tame Type 2 Diabetes has sold 3,200 copies and generated $15,000 in revenue. But if I could rewrite it, I’d make it shorter and more focused. I tried to cover everything—diet, exercise, medications, mindset, and monitoring: I wanted to create a comprehensive guide for newly diagnosed patients. I should have talked to 20 patients and asked: “What’s the ONE thing you’re struggling with most right now?” Then I should have written a focused book solving the specific...
